The MTV Video Music Awards show, which orginally was set to debut on Sept.10 before that date was claimed for the presidential debate, has now shifted later in the week.
The 2024 MTV VMAs is now scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Sept.11. The switch is an attempt to avoid having the VMAs air opposite of the Sept.10 presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
The 2024 VMAs will continue to be held at the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island and will air live on MTV at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Monday, August 12, the VMAs announced the first round of performers for this years award show including Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro.
The 2024 VMAs last week announced the nominees for this year’s awards. Taylor Swift leads with 10 nominations, followed by Post Malone with nine and Ariana Grande, Eminem and Carpenter with six each. GloRilla and Alejandro each received three nominations while Chappell Roan, a first-time nominee, is up for best new artist and MTV Push Performance of the Year. Cabello is nominated for best pop.
